Greetings!
I take pleasure in apprising you of our milestone in Haemophilia Care in India.
In India, Haemophilia remained a rather neglected ‘orphan disease’ until the 2007-2008 when the first fully comprehensive haemophilia care centre, HDCC, was established in Maulana Azad Medical College, and Lok Nayak Hospital complex in New Delhi, under a mandate given to the undersigned as the State Network Coordinator for Haemophilia. Until that time, haemophilia fraternity was deprived of free, institutionalized treatment by government. With its grand success, the focus shifted to replicating similar care centres in other States/ UTs, to provide door-step treatments to all haemophilia patients and was spearheaded with our advocacy and capacity building initiatives. Within a decade, nearly all States and UTs were providing free Haemophilia Care to their respective haemophilia communities- indeed- a matter of national pride.
The rapidity of expansion in innovations in haemophilia treatment came with uncertainties and anxieties amongst not only the patients but also other stakeholders including the treaters, managers, administrators and policymakers. Now, there was a felt need for more cohesive and consensus approach in making right choices esp. under the changing landscape of an expanding armamentarium of drug products.
This is what lead to the formation of Haemophilia & Health Collective of North® in July 2023, with founding members coming from senior experienced and dedicated faculty of prestigious academic institutions under different State governments. This body was registered and was recognized by Government of India as a National level academic organization for the welfare of Haemophilia and Health for All- with the North in it standing for its Head- its wisdom, its intellect, its compassion.
In a short span since its foundation in July 2023, Haemophilia & Health Collective of North® has proved its mettle with its dedication and capabilities in organizing a national level Haemophilia Conclaves, Seminars & Workshops, focussed-group experts meetings, Advisory & Advocacy programmes, and Patient empowerment intiatives. These are well documented and recognized across and beyond the country.
Noteworthy are the HHCN Recommendations on Policy & Protocols for selecting the right product for Optimal haemophilia care in India, these first-ever Guidelines were formally released on 14 December 2023. These are likely to be helpful in many a resource-constrained society.
We feel proud of our achievements- the credit goes to our HHCN’s untiring efforts, fully supported by selfless haemophilia experts of repute.
The instant website intends to enrich the haemophilia stakeholder community with more information and insights.
Haemophilia & Health Collective of North® looks forward to all constructive inputs and collaborations for patient-centred improvements in healthcare in India and developing nations .
With Best Wishes!
